johnny40 Posted May 16, 2016 Report Posted May 16, 2016 HI all I am currently running alpine type r speakers throughout the car with the older type r subwoofers 500wrms each 2x 12inch ported box. Amps are a pdx 4 and a pdx m12 and even thou the subs sound ok at higher volume the front is just overpowering them. So i was looking at upgrading to the newer type r subs at 1000wrms each and adding another pdx m12 one amp per sub. the guy at the shop said around 3-4 db louder. Im pretty new to car audio atm but def need bass louder. Would the 3-4 db be actually helping me out thanks
Wehan Posted May 16, 2016 Report Posted May 16, 2016 Upgrading to that kind of power is going to snowball into a big chunk of money. Need big 3 (should already have this done honestly) high output alternator and at least one good agm battery. Otherwise you will be killing you electrical system and along with that your amps. If it was me I would grab a pair of FI SSD's over the alpine any day of the week. Someone else is going to have to help on the potential gains of your planed upgrade though.
ShadeTreeMechanic Posted May 16, 2016 Report Posted May 16, 2016 3db louder would be twice as loud. 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)
MrSkippyJ Posted May 16, 2016 Report Posted May 16, 2016 in theory it would be 3db louder. Be prepared for reality to be a little more disappointing though. So many variables that you seem to be ignoring. F150: Stock 2019 Harley Road Glide: Amp: TM400Xad - 4 channel 400 watt Processor: DSR1 Fairing (Front) 6.5s -MMats PA601cx Lid (Rear) 6x9s - TMS69
RainStryke Posted May 16, 2016 Report Posted May 16, 2016 I wouldn't recommend newer type R's if your current ones are not enough. It could also be something to deal with your box. Boxes can make a huge difference. If you want something loud in the same price range as the Type R's, i'd look into something like, SoundQubed HDS300 series, American Bass XFL's or XR's, SSA GCON's, Sundown Audio SA series, Fi X series, and DC Audio level 2's are just a few i'd look into. Personally I switched from Type R's over to HDS312's and it was a huge difference. I would also look into a different amplifier for more power... something like a Twisted Sounds 2.8K.
