d-nice88 Posted July 7, 2016 Report Posted July 7, 2016 Ok so im trying to design a box all by myself insted of bugging some one to do it for me and well ibwas wondering if im on the right path. Box dims are 50 w. 22 H. 24 D. Port is an L port with the width being 8.5 inches. Port piece 1 is 14 x 21.5 and port piece 2 is 5 x 21.5. The box cal says my tunning is around 32 hz which is what i want. Its going in a 95 gmc sierra ext cab and housing 2 fi bl 15's powered by audio legion 3.5 k. Am i on the right course?
Pioneerchuck Posted July 8, 2016 Report Posted July 8, 2016 Ok so your description isnt very clear. What I did get was that Box: W = 50" H = 22" D = 24" I assumed your port measurements are for a slot port with 3 common walls to the side. With measurements such as: W = 8.5" H = 21.5" L = ~20" (approximate because i didnt feel like mathing it up too much) Displacement for subs = .42 cubes I got a wood size of 1/2" (most use 3/4" fyi) I came out with: Net = ~11 cubes Gross = ~ 13.5 cubes Port Area = ~ 182 sq in Tuning = ~ 35.5hz Port Volume = ~ 2.2 cubes
d-nice88 Posted July 8, 2016 Author Report Posted July 8, 2016 The port will be on the passenger side L port. I used the re box calculator
Pioneerchuck Posted July 9, 2016 Report Posted July 9, 2016 My measurements may be different than what you used, I just went based off of what I interpreted your post to mean. But the dimensions I have seem to be fairly large for those subs. Iirc they call for 3.5 cubes ported so you'd be feeding them in well over 5.5 after displacements. You might want to shrink your box and keep it on the smaller side to help keep the suspension under a little bit more control.
d-nice88 Posted July 9, 2016 Author Report Posted July 9, 2016 Nvm ima go back and redo it. So i should keep it no more then 8 to 9 cubes after displacement for it to sound its best and also tune it to 33 hz correct ?
Smoove Posted July 9, 2016 Report Posted July 9, 2016 Net = ~11 cubes Gross = ~ 13.5 cubes Port Area = ~ 182 sq in Tuning = ~ 35.5hz that is a bit much. try for 7.5-8 cubes net and like 100sqin of port 2 Team Fi 15's v1 2 DD M5's 970amps of Alt 6th order blowthroughThe truck Blowthrough build : http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/155555-smooves-1996-chevy-ext-cab-c1500-slow-build/The 350z build : http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/170694-smooves-2003-nissan-350z/ My FB page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Smooves-Car-Audio-and-performance/719746144805343 Team Fi Audio http://www.ficaraudio.com/
d-nice88 Posted July 9, 2016 Author Report Posted July 9, 2016 Cool beans will go back and redo thanks a bunch guys
d-nice88 Posted July 9, 2016 Author Report Posted July 9, 2016 ok now im kinda stumped. im using torres box calculator insted of the re box cal. now i think im on the right path but if im doing a double baffle on the top of the box where my subs will be. ( subs up port up on passenger side ) should i put 1 on # of extra baffles and 1.5 for baffle thickness ?? since ill be using 3/4 mdf, or just leave it at the .75 that it was already showing?? sorry to ask so many questions im just trying to learn so i can design my own stuff in the future.
