meh, where is your overlap? how do you know if you are playing a track that is higher than your overlap? how do you know if you are clipping on music? Im not saying dont use the dd-1 on your amp, im saying 90% of dd-1 threads people have set the subs at -15db because they arent loud.

Not you, the customer service guy that said set it at half gain and use your nose and ear.

The dd1 is great because it allows you to set a reference. But that's all it is. As soon as you play a song all bets are off. Different songs are recorded at different levels and different sources can be at a different level too. Don't get me wrong, I love my dd1 but it's only half the story. In the end it's up to the person who controls the volume knob to know if something sounds off. If you like to play loud then your nose better know what it smells like when the subs need help. So in the end you still have to play it by ear to keep from tearing shit up.

I agree that people are just going to set it at - 15 no matter what overlap their song is. People will stop do things wrong even if led to water.

You can also easily run your song through free software to find the overlap.

You can also easily run your dog through free software to find the overlap.

I'm pretty OCD about applying ReplayGain to all my music. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReplayGain

Its sets everything at -14 db average level. There can still be peaks up to 0db, but everything is very consistent and super short peaks in output (even if clipping) are not what kill subs.
