New computer build 9-24-2016

photos!!!

Well after a week it is still going strong! Case is boring looking from the outside so pretty pointless to post pics. 165hz on monitor makes things soooo smoooooth. OC'd 21% and stable. Nothing DOA so I am happy. Performs like it should. IDK, that's about it, lol

Ok. I am at work now but I will post some photos before the weekend ends (have to work 37 hrs. all on night shifts before now and Sun. morning)

I am thinking about water cooling my GPU since it runs at 75c at stock speeds (but under load). Even my R290x only ran at 60c so yea....but at 1080p not 2k and 60 hz refresh rate not 165. The 1080 handles everything just fine and is smooth, it just gets warm (too warm for my liking).

Still strongly considering a 40 lane CPU and 2nd 1080...................................................

I didn't do much with wire management because of the style of case I bought.

Also, unless jimmy rigged I couldn't get the radiator on the top (only because of this certain MOBO, not because of the case) so it's mounted on the side which I hate, might relocate to my other tower.

Plans to watercool the GPU?

Well unfortunately without custom water cooling I am stuck getting the EVGA kit that only water cools the GPU and fan cools the VRM and memory instead of water cooling the whole board with a full block. =( Whatever I guess...... I don't want to always set the fans to run so fast (and loud) and with this water thing I should be able to bring temps down by 30c under load which will make room for some more OC'ing. As you can tell by my build though I am kind of a less is more person, nothing fancy really, updated hardware and done.

LOL, yea, the monitor is 32" but doesn't look like it. Simple set up but those speakers sound remarkably good! I have done the 5.1 setups and even used tower speakers but I keep coming back to these. I rarely use headphones either. I know there is 10,000,000 speakers that sound better than these but I've had these like 13 years and don't really wanna fork over any more money on computer stuff.

Yea, right now under full load the video card runs at 75c. I have it set to throttle down at 83 (can change it with EVGA software) so I guess I am happy it never has to throttle down but I also don't want it running at 75c for it's life when there are other options these days.

All reviews of the kit I ordered (on multiple websites) claim 45c under full load at the hottest so I a hoping to see roughly the same. Kit was under $110 and if it prolongs the life of the card by say 6+ months (hopefully years) I guess it's worth it to me. (and better performance along the way)

  • 1 month later...

So I did this...

http://www.evga.com/thermalmod/thermal_pad_mod_installation_guide.pdf

and ordered and installed this...(should have just got a Hybrid from the beginning and saved $50)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814998133&ignorebbr=1&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC-_-pla-_-Accessories+-+Video+Card-_-N82E16814998133&gclid=CjwKEAiA1ITCBRDO-oLA-q_n8xYSJADjBQfGGVOiD83oGyNIZ14ktLpgYHYjEUFM8fd5OED2p7PAxhoC1s7w_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

and I must say, temps went from a constant 76c to a MAX of 47c which I only see when running programs that show the "MAX" the temp was but constantly ingame I really only see 43c at the highest so i am super happy. The top thing was free, so for $105 I cut temps almost in half which is noticeable for me when OC'ing the GPU. Everything still running fine. CPU OC'd from 3.3 to 4.1 stable (4.1 is not that big of a deal honestly).

3 of these....they have a better push rating for my radiators

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835553006

That's about it for updates. I got things where i want them for a mild, single GPU gaming build to keep up with the times. =)
