I went from a pair of Bl 18s & a pair of Sundown 1500s strapped @ 2ohm to 3 Bl 18s & a pair of 1500s strapped @ 1.3ohms. My cone area increased by 50% and actual power output from the amps increased from 3,000 watts to 3,700 watts and I only gained 0.5db. Just an FYI.

Some guys locally had 2x DD 2515's walled with 3000wrms, doubled the power and gained exactly 0db

It is because your power output wasn't doubled. If you went from 3,000 to 6,000 then you would get about a 3db increase. On the same token you would have to go from 2 18s to 4 18s to get a noticable increase based on cone area, that is with everything else being a constant. And, if you doubled your subs and doubled the power then it would logical for a higher db number to come about. I'm glad that someone indicated that.

In another previous setup I went from a pair of HX2 12s & a T1k doing a 145.5 to 4 HX2 12s & a pair of T1ks only doing a 147.2. Everything was doubled and yet only a 1.7db gain. I then changed it around to 3 HX2s & hit a 146.8 off a single T1k and a 147.6 off a pair of T1ks. Enclosure specs for all those setups stayed exactly proportional w/ 2.25ft & one 4" port per sub.

I think the point some folks here are trying to make is that there are many other factors besides cone area and wattage that play into the resulting spl #.

Great Installation + Batteries = db's So many variables.. Its endless =] Tell us more about whatcha got..

I just decided to get another 15" Atomic APX and just run two fifteens at 12k each instead of one 18 @ 24kw. Theres a brain boggler.

See above, this is why maths fails.

This was in a SS1-2 Walled VW Passat, everything except the number of amplifiers remained constant and they gained literally NIL dB.

Subs meter side, port drivers side, pure SPL setup, single-tone fart-box.
