Mazdaspeed3 - Small Audio Build

Recommended Posts

First off, I would like to start by saying I don’t have a whole lot of free time to work on this build because of my work schedule, family, kids, etc. so bare with me if the updates aren’t often. I’ve been into car audio since 2000 but have never really done anything extreme since I’ve always daily driven my cars and have car seats, etc.

Equipment that will be used:
- (1) 15" Fi Q Sub
- 3 cu. ft. box tuned @ 32 Hz. (Box design by Mark at Car Audio Fabrications, and will wrap in black carpet)
- 8 Ga. OFC sub wiring.
- SMD Speaker terminal
- MB Quart PVL-216 components, will run them passive for now…
- (2) 6-1/2" mid-bass woofers for rear fill I picked up from Parts Express on buyout for $5/ea.
- JL Audio 300/4 amp
- Twisted Sounds 1.8K amp
- Northstar AGM battery w/GP Audio machined battery terminals
- GP Audio 1/0 OFC Merica wire (dedicated Power & Ground from battery to hatch)
- KnuKonceptz Krystal RCA
- Sub/amps mounted to the box using E-Z Lok threaded inserts and 10-24 stainless steel socket cap screws.
- FatMat sound deadener (have a bunch laying around left over from another build)

Still need to buy:
- Iraggi 280A HO alternator (Currently have it on a payment plan)

Only thing left on the box is to cut the hole for the speaker terminal, fasten the 1stbaffle, cut hole/fasten 2nd baffle layer then wrap in carpet, hoping to have it completed by this weekend.

First I build a cardboard mock-up to make sure I could get the sub box in the car after it gets built:

Nice enclosure. Your placement of the window brace close to the wall confuses me some, would you mind elaborating on why you chose to place it there?

I didn't design the box Mark at Car Audio Fabrications did. The sub fits in between the slot port and brace, not sure if there is enough space to put the brace anywhere else or if it's even required to be honest.

Marks the man! Welcome to the forums. Nice ride & equipment you have there. What your mids and highs plan? Whats the wattage of your TS mono amp? Tuned in for more. Nice enclosure by the way.

Gotcha. Just seems like a really long span on the back wall without any bracing. Mark's got more experience than me though, so I'm sure it's a good design :) i'll be keeping an eye out for more pics ;)

I bought my box design from Mark on my last enclosure build for a single 10", very happy how it came out plus it takes all the guess work out and get some nice clean build plans. My OP has mods/highs listed, wouldn't let me edit the post to fix the photo links.

front doors are getting MB Quart PVL-216 running them passive, came out of my old truck was very happy with them then. Picked up some 6-1/2" poly woofers on buy out from parts express for $5/ea going to use them for rear fill

TS certified at 1-ohm is like 2,100 watts but I'll be running it in 2-ohm for now which is certified at like 1400 watts since my sub is a D1
