Also, if you set it with the -5dB track, you can still easily clip if you play anything above -5dB. Setting it with a DD-1 wont do anything for you if you dont understand what you are setting it to. Also, big thing... are they heating up fast on a particular song? (particular frequency)? SA's are know to be able to take 1000w pretty much all day long, so if you are heating them up enough to smell them , it would lead me to believe that he is clipping them pretty good at full tilt, so songs are probably above -5dB. I mostly play got160s which is done at -4.5db which came strait from him. And used the dd-1 at -5 db like he recommended. And if I had to put a frequency on it it would be the lower hz for sure maybe around 25 and down ( only play that low with the box tuned to 26hz )
bluegmcjimmy
check the ohm resistance with a dmm on the subs, then crack that amp,i buy amps subs locally from people who said just as did,if its an amp i swap the bad mosfetts, caps or what ever looks burnt or gives a bad reading then i resell or keep depending how rare or how much value it has in working order. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWd1ShRnPbDG9ppgJKpumdA <---- show some love to my channel Alpine MRH-F255 (old school), sub channel not used Skar audio VX35-ST tweets in front (invest in them they are worth it) kicker zr120- nice underrated amp Powerbass s1204 subwoofer in a 1.75 custom slot ported enclosure tuned to 30hz Front doors Prv 6mb200s 8ohm Alpine type-e 5.25 in dash took a shave and a hair cut.....- not in use Rear doors alpine 6.5's model/series unknown but they are loud as hell Factory alt 3.5 farad cap, does the job for now. Joe X
OP you may want to set your subsonic filter if you have not done so.

Secondly, a trend I have noticed in my build, which i would assume will follow suit in others, if you set your gains at say 40hz with a DD-1 to be clean right before the point of clipping/distortion, if you play 39hz at that same volume, you will be clipping, and as you play lower you will clip more and more. Not sure if this correlates when a load is on the amplifier, just something I noticed on my oscope. What I would do, play a bit down from full tilt (1 or 2 volumes down) and see if it they still get hot fast. At a lil above 1/4 tilt and full volume I'm getting massive amounts of excursion in the lows. Even with the 26hz port tune. Is it possible that the box being so big is over working the subs and causing them to get hot fast?

Could, especially if they are maxed out mechanically at say half volume, yet it keeps getting turned up. I had a teammate who used to run 4 SA 15's in a wall and it was like 12-13 cubes and still played low. That box is just massive, even for 4 15's. So, do u think making a 1.5-2 cuft box to go in each side of the wall to reduce internal volume will help? 2014 Ford Focus SE Sedan Factory Sony 10 Speaker Sound System 1994 Ford Bronco Dual head unit (i kno) Sony door speakers Kenwood Rear Speakers Custom Center console in the works. will house an NVX NSW10" https://m.facebook.com/WinnsCustomCarAudio/
