Dc 's Are Coming Building A Box This Week , Need A Little Advise On Resin And Glue

Recommended Posts

Rather then just using resin I would cut 45's out of mdf and then lay matt on top of that, it will save on resin. And allso if you mix your resin right it doesnt take too long to dry, mine normally is dry with in 2-4 hours depending on the weather.

I was thinking that to.. just cut the 45's then throw a few coats of resin on the entire box? ... Like i said i know its probably not super important just cuz i only have 1000 watts on a pair of 12's ..

This is true...esp since the resin will generally CRACK as it cures esp if you mix it too "hot" (more hardener than neccessary)

Read the label.

With the Bondo brand resin I believe they say 12drops per 1oz resin..but you can mix it "hotter" (more hardener/ per resin ounce than that) depending on ambiant temp.

A space heater will speed dry time if it's cold.

heater or work lights if you can get em close enough. in 30 degrees yeah it'll take a long time, but in warmer weather it can take like a half hour to dry.

yea ill try the resin.. im sure i wont mess it up tooo bad ha :)

I gotta go grab some carpet and some black gloss paint, for my first attempt at that too lol.. This is going to be intteresting :)

2 more quick dumbass questions .. i know..

Before you lay down the resin is it necessary to run a bead of caulk around the entire perimeter then lay it down, or just brush the resin on? that make sense?

And when doing 45 degree mdf corners what s the best way to get them tight ? glue then screw them in ?

the resin will seal it up- no caulk or silicone needed.

and i always glue and screw my 45s just because of preference- is it required? idk but it doesn't hurt!! ^_^

thanks man, you screw them from the inside ? As in having 2 screws up top and bottom angled to go to the back and side s of the box or screw thm in from the outside , and what width you think is best for the corners? 2-3 inches , then 45 both sides?

with my 45s I just use wood glue and brads to keep it in place. Then caulk to seal it off nicely

i don't think it will be necessary for you to use caulk before the resin since the resin will seal your corners for you anyway
