1 sub in a 2 sub box

Hello, Im still kind of new to car audio and was just curious if I can do something. I just ordered a sundown audio x12 and as of now I have a box used for 2 subwoofers with a total cubic feet of 3.2. If I seal off one of the cutouts will it act the same as a box meant for one sub? 

I know it's a dumb question but I don't want to damage my sub.

Is the current box sealed or ported?

If its ported i probably wouldn't see a problem with it.

Sealed is more forgiving. Sundown calls for 2.50 qu ft ported. If it were me, I'd ask for assistance to build the proper enclosure: include type of vehicle, max space you have for the enclosure, how much power you'll be running and type of music you listen to. Maybe you get lucky with what you have now...Maybe not. Keep your ears open for mechanical noise and nose tuned for the stinky...clipping

Thanks guys for the help, it's a ported box by the way. I'll just put it in for now and make a better box later!

With going bigger you have the potential to run into excursion issues so keep that in mind.

What is the port area of the box (if ported) ? How much power will you be using?
