Quick question

Hey guys I have a friend that is wanting to put a triple 12" box in a 2016 challenger. The subs are rockford t1 on a rockford power 1500 amp. We went to a local shop in my area and they said that there isn't enough airspace in the trunk that throwing three woofers in there would smother them and they could get better/louder sound from two or even one 12". 

 

This sounded weird to me, seems like to me as long as the box is proper spec for each woofer, it wouldn't really matter. They quoted us 275 to build a box which sounds a little steep to me but I know that you're obviously going to pay more if you dont do it yourself. What do you guys think?

275 is definatly reasonable for a box... I'd almost say that is on the cheap end.

 

Also you can get more out of box of proper specs than you can cramming more subs into the same box. If you're having them build it for you I'd listen to them and go with 2 12s. Your friend will be happier saving the money on subs

yeah i know a proper spec box would sound better. I'm pretty sure there's enough room to build a proper spec box however they were saying even in a proper spec box they would still sound like shit if the trunk space is too small. I wanted to get some other opinions because i know not every shop is right about everything.

How much space do you have? You will need atleast 6 cubes for the subs plus whatever the port will take up, so around 7 cubes.

Can someone chime in though about the not enough airspace in the trunk thing? As long as the box is proper spec, does that matter as long as it fits in the trunk?

There arent a lot of people on the forum during the daytime, so you may get more interest this evening when people get off work.

Will the back seat be down?  Is there a pass thru armrest?  If the properly sized box physically fits, then your next major concern is if there is enough area for your port and subs to blow into the cabin.

As walled said you need to get the sound out of the trunk. which ever way the port faces you will need at least the width of the port worth of clearance away from the sides or rear of the trunk. If you go subs up then you run the risk of tearing up your trunk and also vibration city. 

 

If it fits it would almost certainly have to be built in the trunk which would be much  more involved and expensive.

Go with two subs with a fat port tuned low and put a shit ton of power in it.
