Advice on new batteries

Recommended Posts

Currently have 2 powerchair batteries and am about ready to upgrade em. Also was.thinking about a big cap since even with 2 extra batteries I get light dim. Should I add a cap to my batteries or get a battery with a cap built in? Saw this one and was looking.for information about.it

youre pretty much gonna get light dim no matter what.  even when running HO alts and multiple batteries.  lights are very sensitive to voltage drop.  to combat this, the easy and cheap way (as long as your voltage is staying strong ), is replace dash lights and exterior lights with LEDs.  LED headlights pretty much eliminate dimming, HIDs completely do.  Changing your dash lights for LEDs is pretty simple, there are plenty of guides out there to help too.

avoid caps.  batteries will out perform them any time.  unless youre running a big bank of maxwell caps or something that actually works.

Local parts store, $200 AGM for the daughters build a couple years ago. I hear Walmart has battery's even cheaper.

I have leds both high and low beams, low beams flicker a bit, dash lights dim a little too, lowest volt drop I've seen is 12.7 with a long beat,  I've never been a fan of caps, just was wondering about newer ones. I may grab a pair of group 28 interstate agms since I can get em at cost at work ( close to $130 a piece).  Just kind if checking my.options. Was also thinking maybe 4 of these kinetic batteries also  I got the room but am unsure of what wattage battery I need or if 4 of this size is better than 2 of the next size up of these batteries. I'm running right about 2800 rms, just ordered CAB 1/0 and will be doing double runs on everything (big 4, front to back,  and only single run to my two front stage amps, will be double runs to my sub amp). My 140a alt seems to be holding tough so going to save for a big singer or mechman alt soon.

roger got ya.  yeah was just wondering how much you planned on throwing at it, because it adds up quick and you could do a home made lithium for about $500 or less that will be the equivalent to 4 or more big agm batteries.  ask me how i know ;)

I actually have a battery for a prius available to me lol, never even thought about it but that's a hell of a lithium ( or life battery, not sure). Wonder what I could do with that. Also just went to order that CAB wired was all good till they wanted 30 more.dollars to ship.it.to me, what do u think about this rockville 0? It's awg CCA 0 ( so it says). I used some.of their 2 gauge on a friends setup and it was bigger than my current generic 0 gauge. R0G50BLUE is model number and is $59.95 and free shipping. There is American bass and stinger 0 awg cca for about 80 shipped also.

so the thing to watch out for with prius cells is they're only 6aH with a max discharge current of ~300 amps.  not likely that it would do much good in a car audio setup.  i have seen people use ford focus hybrid battery cells and i have a bank of nissan leaf cells (though im still up in the air to if they're actually helping anything, gonna wait until spring and pull em and see if my voltage changes).  what you should be looking for with homebrew lithium is CALB cells, with a high discharge rate.  of course that's if you're interested in going that route.

something like 4 of these:  http://www.evwest.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=4&products_id=51

now something to consider when ordering lithium is it's classified as a class 9 dangerous material so shipping can be expensive.  if you do go this route, try to find a US seller to minimize the cost.  my 70aH bank of 4 calb cells was about $475 shipped to my door.  which with a max discharge current of 700 amps, saved me about $1000 from the closest rated limitless lithium.
