Mechman 370 elite help please.

Recommended Posts

Recently at idle with nothing playing all my dash lights, head lights, inside lights, all flicker, and if I watch the voltage gauge in dash it’s moving up and down over and over.

Not sure if it’s the voltage regulator going out And causing my rpms to go to low as 400 or that it’s my car idling badly causing this.

I checked with a vm at alternator and the voltages seem steady around 14.5 but not sure on amps.

do I need to send my alternator in to get fixed or is this my car?

if I give it a tiny bit of gas getting it to above like 600-750 rpm most of the flickering goes away,  this alt is 1 wire alt with internal regulator at 14.8v.

Did you put a smaller belt on?

Same belt, the tensioner line was right in the

middle so I thought it was dead on, and I haven’t heard any belt slipping.

guess I can toss in my old one and see if it does same thing.

Those mechman alts need a 1/2"to 3/4" shorter belt to operate properly. Due to the smaller pulley.

Even if the tensioner showed good tension and alignment?  It’s been working fine for months before all this started.

Good point, not sure. It got down to 1° last night and when I started my jeep I was at 15v, I'm usually at 14.4v. I'm assuming that everything tightened up in the cold and put more drag on the alt. My belt is 1/2" shorter than stock. Makes me think that I could get more output in warmer weather with 3/4" shorter. Mechman says that you should do it so I figured they must know more about it than me. Good luck.

Normal.  Its pcm controlled

So my alt ain’t going out or nothing?  Any way to stop the flickering?  It didn’t do it for months and all of a sudden it’s causing flickering.
