Jonnyswboy Posted July 19, 2020 Report Posted July 19, 2020 Hello, not sure if this is the right place to post this. When I purchased my Fi SSD 15, the spec sheet said 1250RMS but about a year later I checked it and it says 1500RMS. I do have the latest (v3) version of the SSD as indicated by 3 magnets, but when I put over ~1350RMS clamped to it, I can start to smell it and the dust cap gets very hot. I am sure there is no clipping. My current box is way too small so I am wondering if that could have something to do with it. Over the years I have accidentally been careless a few times and smelled it. I checked the coil shortly after I installed it and it looks the same as it does now in this picture almost a year later (picture attached). I believe the darkness is normal, but I can't seem to tell if those white dots are bubbling. I measured 0.9-1.2ohms with a DMM which is right on point with 1 ohm like it's supposed to be. Is there any damage to it that I should worry about? Also if I needed to recone would it be possible to put a FI Q 15 recone kit in it? It's the next tier above rated at 1750RMS.
Backwoods Posted July 19, 2020 Report Posted July 19, 2020 How small is the box? What's the specs on the box? What amp are you using? I don't think you're feeding them too much power... How was the amp gain set? DD1/scope? How are you sure you are not clipping? Singer 250amp Alt, Singer PCM bypass harness Titan8 Lithium Underhood safe BCI PWR-S5 Big 3 W/ dual runs of power/ground. I just commissioned a 4.0 net cuft @ 33hz box so I don't have to worry about it for much longer. Amp is a Taramps MD 3000.1 and I used a clamp meter and DMM to set the gain on a 37hz test tone @ 1350w. I am not 100% sure it isn't clipping, but I assumed I would be able to hear it. Head unit does not clip as far as I know. But getting 1ohm testing on the coil with a multi-meter makes me confident it isn't THAT damaged. Am I wrong in thinking that? I'm hoping that once I get the new box and clamp it again at 1300w that the coil should last at least a few more years.
CstrokerV Posted July 20, 2020 Report Posted July 20, 2020 Could of been not cooling properly with That box... as for the coil I don’t know and you would have to fi about the Q recone I would say no my build http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/142505-small-build-log-4-dc-lvl3-10s-tl-update-link-to-rebuild/ http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/154258-rebuild-6-lvl3-12s-update-small-video-nothing-spectacular/ new build http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/188181-03-trailblazer-slow-build-8-dc-lvl3-12-m1-motor-m2-parts/
