Carpet In Port Area?

Will it hurt anything is there is some carpet in my port? Not much, but a little..... I was told by someone the other day that this is bad, and it can cause the "Sound waves" to reflect, cause it is no longer a smooth surface for air to escape. IS this true? I basically just want to fold back the carpet just slightly inside the port, this way it will hide a few fiberglass inperfections. (I hate sanding LOL!)

I would think that the carpet would absorb the sound waves and cause the port to not act the actual size that it is.

sand sand and more sand. never carpet your port. smoother the better you know the rules

ok, I laid a coat of spray paint into it, and it made some of the resin "POP" out. I will sand it down perfectly, and repaint. Appreciate your replies guys.
