quoting majorpayne there is no special school you have to go to to be an installer, you can go to a school like acoustic edge or installers institute and get your mecp certification, but you dont even have to go to a school to get that either, you can study at home and then go take the test, its only like 50 bucks, make sure you buy the study guides and pay attention to them and you should do fine... can someone tell me where i can find the materials to do this?a link or something i have looked into schools and they are expensive and far away. then i met a guy that works at car audio innovations in roseville ca. who went to a school and docent know shit. id hate to waste the money and end up like him but thats another story

hell, i was gonna save up close to 10 grand to go to mobile dynamics and take their 8-week course. :|

I think the best school is hard knocks.

Sometimes you just have to get in there and fuck stuff up. The only way you get good at something is to do it often. You can't learn that from a test

i know how to do a basic system deck couple subs couple amps tune it with the earometer and it usually sounds decent for sq but as far as stuff that the big boys do (bill,jack,the bassick guys and the many othere) im a guppy or whatever is under them lol... but i someday would like to get my foot on the door at a shop somewhere. my buddys shop is to small its his pops him and his friend for the last 8yrs so no luck there.

It really just comes with doing it over and over.

Even if you install the same shit over and over, each time you should be able to pick out something you would like to change, then you get in there, rip it all out and do it again. I've done 30+ installs on my Excursion alone.

30+ thats crazy, i m far from that, i was just wanting to learn some big stuff. im always trying to learn more

Once I go back to work, I will start back on the jetta, I could use some help, lots of welding and grinding todo before I can start throwing wood in the car.

can you go to the shop and watch or even help out most smaller shops usually dont mind a little free help. whats the book about never seen it before. i have the mecp book it has good info in it but imo it wont make you a better installer as long as you know the basics.
