I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Chris Posted August 15, 2008 Report Share Posted August 15, 2008 Sounds like a bad coil to me. Copper gets stinky when you try to run too much power through it. When a coil is on it's way out, it usually means that at some point it has gotten hot enough to burn or melt a hole in the enamel or glue coating on the VC wire. When this happens, it immediately decreases resistance throughout the given coil, therefore with the laws of electricity, the power you give will mainly be going through that coil since it has the least resistance to current flow. It won't for the most part sound much different since it will still be getting the same overall power, but will progressively get worse, more stinky & HOTTER at lower & lower volumes because the coating will continue to melt. 99vic Posted August 15, 2008 Author Report Share Posted August 15, 2008 ok i just got off the phone with lazeris the first owner, he told me he never got it hot to where the coils would smell the dust cap never really got hot either it just got a little warm. he also said he never tested each coil he ran it -to+ on each coil then to the amp from one coil what ever thats called and he got 1.8 ohms im testing each coil and 1 is reading between .9 to 1 ohm the other is jumping from .4 to 1.1 ohm back and fourth. my amp settings are all the way down the gain is a quarter of the way up if that the bass bost is all the way down and its set around 35 hertz and the sub level on my deck is at -16.
