I personally love down firing boxes, they can look more prodessional/clean, and has an added signature to the sound, but one there, there IS a specific height between cone and floor

1) cone WILL rub on floor on excursion

2) you need an actual kind of chamber there- IMPORTANT

3) just raise it up about another 1.5" and you should be fine

If you looked in my garage, I still have some boxes left over when I went on my 4 year 150 box testing phase of life

every $20 I would have extra, I was off buying crappy wood, slapping something together, and test it it the speaker shop

I litterally rushed built these boxes, because I was deteremined to find the most efficient, deepest sounding box, along with finding a bunch of other designs

there is enough clearence for the sub at MAX excursion it will not hit the floor...these subs are like 8mm max excursion

sometimes you can get away with it, all Iam saying is thru experience, a little more space between the woofers, and floor, and you WILL hear a improvement

I would say min 1" between surround and floor

there is 1 and 1/4 inch from bottom of box to groudn clearence, should i go more, and u said something about a chamber?
