We had a guy in our old car club running 4 12'' and from what I could tell enough power for them, and IN THE KICK PANEL he could only do a 142dB. I beg to differ that its always the car that makes the numbers. Some cars are louder that others yes. But I think if you use you mind, and do a little planning, almost .... ALMOST any car can do decent numbers with even "crap" equipment if the install is done well and with the right enclossure. I remember back in the day when I was running 4 PPI 8" and a 130 watt audiovox, I thought it was wangin hard, in a single cab Ford Ranger I was happy, untill I heard a guys 2 12" and found out what was up. I never got hate on cause I was usin an Audiovox amp ( you prolly could say a bit about it now, I would) but, I didnt have a boatload of money then. If thats what he can afford and he is just starting out, I would tell him to role with it. Besides I have used and installed, and know many amps of greater cost and "BRAND" to go up in smoke and to sound like junk, and lesser quality amps to last and sound great... Hope thats another opinion you can use hommie. Tell your neighbor to get that amp, and see what it does. Most of what you know is just recycled information that you've picked up from other people's responses. I've been doing this a little bit longer than you son, and who knows I may have been as ignorant as you were at one time in my life. My car is loud for a couple of reasons. One is the car itself, two I have a lot of time in building and designing the enclosure, three the equiptment that I'm running. I'm sure that on your first try building a crx you would build a world record car right? It's not as easy as you think it is to make a car loud. I've seen plenty of multiple woofer setups in cars that should be loud as hell, but they weren't because some idiot built it and didn't use the stuff he had to it's full potential. What kind of number did you do in the Excursion that you had? I think what a 140 or so. I wasn't even gonna talk any shit to you, but you opened your mouth and said that the only reason my car was loud was because it's a hatchback. Well, I guess the only reason you're ignorant is because ignorance breeds ignorance. Go ahead and waste a ton of money on really expensive equiptment and be dissapointed when guys like me pull up next to you in the db drag lanes and still smash you with half of the equiptment, half the power, and half the money invested. He threw out his bullshit statement that my car was only loud because it's a focus. I find that hard to believe because I had a box that was in the trunk of my last car and when I got the focus I threw it into it. I did a 145.7 with a box swap from vehicle to vehicle without changing equiptment. Then I built a new box especially for the focus and did a 147.6 at the first comp I went to after it was finished. I made a few more adjustments and the highest I've got it up to is 148.6. So it's taken me time and hard work.
