Testing Big Boy Monster 15"

Recommended Posts

Okay, I was just wondering. My subs have yet to get even warm since we did the recones on them with the upgrades and cooling. Do you think this is an even better option than what you used for the Nightshade's upgraded cooling?

Yes, I am pretty confident that this method is even better. The cooling upgrade on the Nightshade is still quite good, as you have experienced, though!

The coil on the monster looks as good as new thermally and I've had the four 1500s on it at 1/2 ohm all this time.

We'll figure out something to make it even more durable I'm sure :)

Of course, it is already quite a success as I am quite comfortable saying this thing will handle a BUNCH of burp power and a few thousand watts day to day without issue - but 6000 watts "daily" is a bit much !

I do know that my cooling system is working GREAT... at enough power to tear off the former wrap the coil is good as new thermally:

* This is the actual coil - our sharpie marks aren't even burnt off :)

* You can see the wrap is crinkled up

* Down like an accordion!

The 12-layer is 13 grams lighter than the 8-layer but we actually added 41 grams of mass with our re-enforcements to hold the coil wrap together... despite the added mass we gained:

Not too shabby :)

I have a ritual called "terminator". I crouch in the shower in the "naked terminator" pose. With eyes closed I crouch for a minute and visualize either Arnie or the guy from the 2nd movie. I then start to hum the T2 theme. Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy.
