Question About Burping.

A slight clip is okay, but anything that looks like a square wave isn't. Slightly clipped is the crest of the wave not being completly round, but also not being a flat line for very long either. If the wave looks almost round at the top, but not too flat then it is probably a good signal to burp with. It is true that a slightly clipped signal is louder than a completely round wave, but it should not be used for anything other than a burp. If you plan on playing music the wave should be linear and have no plateaus(sp) in it.

because im completely referring to my clip light in my bass knob to know if im clipping or not.

no matter what settings i do. it seems that i need to clip it just to make it loud and move alot.

i asked mike at maxxonics for settings and and he even told me to try and put a little bit of bass booost.

i stilll haven't tried to set my gains using dmm though. i will do it as soon as i get a new dmm.

but isn't it enough to set my gain using the clip light?

My buddy that runs a shop swears by full gain on his amps.

No bassboost, no subsonic, no crossover settings. just full gain.

He never blew a amp yet from doing it, and has took home many world records as well as 1st place final trophies.

I always give him crap for it, but he only full gains his amps that where in his extreme vehicle only.

Everything else in the shop that is done for the customer is oscoped, and on dei amps they are locked to the gain he sets them at with a bitwriter.

So yes, in a straight up burp machine, the clipping wont be a problem, its going to be a few short 3 second runs.

If this is your daily system that your gonna burp, stay away from the clipping as much as you can.

Edit: bass boost is one of the worsth things I seen come on amps nowadays.

Bassboost, what does it do?

It adds bass to music at LOW VOLUMES (like the loud button or BBE on your headunit)

You can hear the added bass at low volumes, but at max volumes you wont hear it at all, and just clip your gear.

If you set your gain proper with no bass boost, then turn your stereo on fulltilt, and crank the bassboost, you will hear no change except maybe for distortion.

You can get max power out of your amps WITHOUT bassboost and your amp/subs will thank you for it.
