Pending on what type of truck it is, it might not be cost effective to switch to a diesel, as you will have to replace the Transmisstion (to be able to handle the torque of the diesel) and possibly the driveline, rear differential and brakes.

I would talke a look at this post to address your question about the alternator.

Adding additional Alternators won't affect the engine at all and theoretically yes it will take a little bit extra effort to turn the belt, since there is another pully added. But I think the big question is how much load will be on the alternators?

Well getting a fully rebuilt engine thats about 98% complete with 40,000 miles for free really helps the budget.

i had a 300 gm style alt on my rex, it was not very friendly to my car. thats why i took it off, well that and i got tired of the belt sqeeling.
