how many layers thick should this be?

Team S.M.D.

Maritime Car Audio- (2) 18" SSA ZCON D1

- American Bass 500.1

- 60 ft of 3/0

-480 Ah of battery

- (2) stock alternators (70 +90)

- Kenwood Excelon x-794, 4v preouts

car audio is just a LOT more complicated than "this amp does this power" or "this sub will be this loud". its like 2 + 2 = banana. (if that confuses you then you get the point) lol

I usually do 4 layers of 1.5 oz chop mat. If done correctly comes out a bit over 1/4" thick and is stronger than a piece of 3/4" MDF. if doing more than 2 woofers or mounting heavy woofers, I will do 6 layers.

LSN2meBoom916,

Have you ever tried to pre-cut everything for a well, like all 4 layers, and do it at once? neat trick I picked up about 10 years ago.

Not sure what you mean by "do it all at once"...I usually cut as much as I wanna lay at one time...and I only limit myself by how much resin I want to/can get in place b4 I end up w/ a cup or container full of solid resin...I don't like to waste it so I try to just work in smaller easier to control amounts of resin...but Yes I generally CUT all my matt b4 hand unless I under estimate how much I'll need...and just end up cuttin mat and mixin more resin and layin it all until it's strong enough. I try to plan as far ahead as I can without shootin myself in da foot.

As for the "where's the finished pics"....meh...maybe...

This tub has seen some changes actually....I put a "top" of the "clamshell" on it to house 4 CVR 15's in 8.8cubes sealed and it was ok but not as loud as I'd hoped...but it was only getting ~1400rms just like the 4 12s I been running...then I changed it...two or 3 times.

It's kinda a pain to upload a miliion pics but I should get around to it eventually.

Thanks for lookin at my craps folks.
