fourlug
Well rig season is right around the corner. Its getting below freezing at night now and it should freeze up soon enough. I'm planning on heading up north, I gave my 2 weeks at work today (I was only clearing $1200/2 weeks :censored: ) I was making $17.50/hr as a general laborer, I know times are tough in the States right now, I think Canada is heading in the same direction but not just yet. As far as I know I should be CLEARING $5000 every two weeks (tons of OT) in Fort St John, Ft. Mac, Grand Prarie etc I'm buying a 2nd Gen Cummins (12v or 24v not sure yet) within the next two weeks and just drivin up and applying everywhere in person. Looking for service rig work, diamond drilling, mining, hydrovac, cement work. I want to stay in a camp. Anyone have experience in oil/gas or mining? Any americans ever try and get a job here? The money is NUTS as long as you can drop everything and come. All you need is to pass a piss test. Work load looks like 21 on/7 off or 10 on/ 3 off. 12 hour days is required everywhere. anything over 44 hours is 1.5 time in alberta, 2x time in BC. This is for a entry level position (you wont find anything UNDER, I mean under $20/hr). I know there hiring class 1 drivers out the ass. Thought I'd start a thread, maybe this might interest some of you younger guys. I don't have the largest knowledge in the subject but I can help out with simple questions. I'll let yall know how goes.

fourlug
Sorry to hear that guys, do the oil companies like precision drilling and other major contenders do any recruiting down there? I'm not sure how hard it is to work here being an american citizen, but I would imagine its pretty easy, we let all the damn ......."foreign immigrants" in and give them citizenship already. I hate the cold with a passion, dress with 10 layers, good socks/boots and think of money. PS. It IS NOT cheap living here, I pay out the ass for everything from cell phones, insurance, movies, food, etc. Rent in ft mac is around $1000 for a single room in a small house. You can't even find a hotel room here, companies book them year round, its actually cheaper to live in a hotel than it is to rent. Its cheaper to buy the damn house then rent most the time. Thats why living in a camp where food and living is free = the best.

fourlug
Dont expect to get laid, save your money and dont get into any drugs/alchohol. ---> this is the mindset im going with. I'm 18, this is a PERFECT chance to get ahead of the game, so I'm gonna take it and never look back. I'll finish my trade (apprenticeship) when I get back.
