daddy_j
Ok here we go, I have built three boxes and and modded them as much as I could before destroying them. I have tried 1.5 cubes per, and 2cubes per, and even 2.5cubes. Now I need the advise from the pros. I have a SS10000D, and 2 solox10s dual 2ohm (.5 ohms altogether). My vehicle is a 89crx and is strickly a comp car. Not wanting it to sound good, just straight SPL. Just burping, or an occational 30second burps. The tuning can be where ever you think will hit the hardest in a crx. This is for Usaci events with the door open and mic on the passenger floor. I dont really want to wall it off because that would put me in a mod class with the sponcered guys who are hitting +155dbs. I just can't seem to get the port tuning right. My highest to date in the crx with the equipment listed above is 149.2dbs, and then I started messing with the port and have only been going down ever since. Yesterday went all the way down to 147.6dbs. So as you can see I need help. I will take every responce into consideration. So please help with a design. I also have 4 2400kinitiks. Just really asking for a box recomondation. I have no preference. Subs up, down, left right, ports up, down, left right, two chambers, one chamber, 2boxes or one box, it doesnt matter. Please help. Usable space in the crx is 14.5 inches tall, 32inches wide, and 40 inches length. But the 40 inches wont leave room for the ports to breath. I know there are alot of pros on this site that have delt with either a crx or solox10. thanks to anyone who took time to read the whole post sorry its so long. But I want you guys to see that I am trying on my own, and not just paying for everything with mommy and daddy's money. thanks
Nightshade
First off the amp that you have doesn't even start making power until you run it at 16 volts. Next off the boxes you're using are way too big for those subs regardless what Kicker's specs tell you. I'd start off at 1 cube per 10 and work from there. The tuning of your car is going to be more than likely from 55-61hz depending on what model and if it's got a sunroof or not. You would probably be okay tuning it to 52hz and cutting length off the port from there and stop cutting length when you see the score drop. Build two seperate boxes one for each woofer. The way it'll need to be done is woofer firing foward and port to the rear. You'll definately want to use aeroports, DO NOT use a slot port period! For a single cube per sub tuned to 52 hz you'll be looking at a single 4" aeroport 9.6" long. Build two boxes identical and stack them side by side with the subs foward and the ports to the rear. You more than likely won't be able to to fit the ports inside the box all the way so it's okay to mount the port to the face of the box sticking out of the enclosure. If you don't know what I'm talking about click my stats page at the bottom of the page in my signature and there are pics of how my enclosure is built in the same way. The further away you can keep the opening of the ports from the back of the wall of the hatch the better. I would slide the boxes foward as far as you're able to in the hatch of the car and still be legal. This is just a start, but I would be safe to bet that you won't be disapointed with the scores that this type of enclosure will yeild. Also get yourself some 16 volt Powermaster D1000's to help keep that amp supplied with power. Otherwise sell it and get something that does better on 12 volts. I've never seen one of those amps make more than 5500 watts EVER. daddy_j
thank you for your info, the reason I have the SS10000d is because I got a good deal on it $700shipped. I had 2 phd5000d ampsand just switch the amp and gained 2dbs. The solox10s cant take anymore power than a SS10000d on 12volts. After 25seconds (SB1) they start to smoke, and after the 30seconds the car is full of smoke. So 5500watts is pretty much all they can take. I will put them in a 1foot box and witht the port you sugested, thanks. BUt any chance of you being able to figure out how I end up with 1 cube after the sub and port displacement? Like how big would the box have to be after its all said and done? I know most people on this site are busy, but if anyone can find a spare moment to draw up such a box, or maybe give me the outside dimentions, that would be great. I know 12X12X12 is 1 cube, but not when the sub is in there. thanks everyone for reading this thread, not just the ones that chime in, but the ones that dont write crazy stuff. I have the 89 crx with a sun roof. I am not prepared to compete against the big dogs yet +155dbs, that is why I dont want to run 16volts yet. once I get to about 152dbs, then I might go 16 volts. remember this is straight spl. mounting depth of the sub is 8-3/8in, 21.1cm I don't know what this means but FB=70.4hz, f3=40.9 exmass .906in 23mm Stupid kicker tells me to build a 6cubic foot box for each sub, for spl. Crazy basterds.
Toxiccasper
um if your woofers even start to smoke you might as well get new ones no wonder your score keeps dropping the resistance on the coils probably isnt even close to when they came from the factory Also do more deadening and get rid of the sunroof Edited October 21, 2008 by Toxiccasper
daddy_j
um if your woofers even start to smoke you might as well get new ones no wonder your score keeps dropping the resistance on the coils probably isnt even close to when they came from the factoryAlso do more deadening and get rid of the sunroof all solox woofers start to smoke. thats just the glue they use. I will add more deadening and get rid of the sun roof. But the thread was for help on a box not weather or not I need to get rid of my sun roof. Plz if you have info on my box I would LOVE your input. plz dont state I need more batteries or anything else. again no disrespect to anyone. plz help with the box situation. So if I build the 1cubic foot box is that before displacement? that is what Im planning. and where does the port go. in the corner, in the middle, top of the back, bottom of the back, same on the other box? thx
Mosin
I had 2 18" X's, they never smoked. Did you tell Kicker's tech support what kind of application you were using them for? Other than 'SPL'? Anyways, good luck! Quote Derp.
daddy_j
I did tell kicker and they said 6cubic feet. this is only for SPL nothing more. and the 10s and 12s used the same glue. if you throw more than 5000watts at 1 for more than afew seconds you'll see them smoke. They are great burpers, but for daily and 5000watts= smoke. This is the 3rd and fourth spare. Edited October 22, 2008 by daddy_j
Toxiccasper
Sounds to me like youre just clipping the hell out of them but ok
Nightshade
The sub should be able to handle the power better in a smaller enclosure. You may not see them smoke in a cube, but then again I don't know their thermal capabilities. If you could tell me the woofer displacement then I'll give you the box size that is necessary. You won't need to figure port displacement because like I said before you'll want to put the port on the outside of the box to allow for maximum room between the flares on the port and the rear hatch wall.
