Question About Voltage Drop

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am running a Sundown Saz 1500 D and two small amps for full range that are probably 350 watts total. I have 1 run of 1/0 and 1 run of 4 gauge to my back battery (Optima red top) a 250 amp ho alt. and big three done in 1/0. I just fried an amp a couple weeks ago due to low voltage I think. I was driving on the highway and the amp stopped and tons of smoke came in the cab. I was listening to music not test tones either. How is it that I can not crank up my system without severe voltage drop? Do I need more battery? your help would be appreciated.

I personally would do two runs of 1/0 and 1-2 D3100s.....you don't have enough battery for your alt....your only as strong as your weakest component (redtop).

It's hard to say, since you "think" it was from low voltage and weren't monitoring the voltage. You may want to check both batteries, if the front battery is weak, it will cause voltage drops horribly. Also make sure your grounds for your back battery are awesome. I've fixed a lot of horrendous voltage drop problems just from running a ground from the front batter to the back.

You dont think that 1 run of 1/0 and 1 run of 4 gauge is enough for 2200 watts?

When I opened the amp up the fets were burnt in two places. I would assume that was what caused it.

My Grounds are nice. I have two grounds for the back battery and the fronts are done correctly as well.

The amps have the same treatment as the batteries.

I guess I was wondering if I needed more battery to use the system the way it should be able to be used. Thanks for the reply.

Wow I'm an idito! I was at school and was trying to read and type fast before I had to leave the lab I thought it said 2 1500D's my bad...but yeh it could have been bad grounds as stated by stratus.
