It's real..... But I don't know if it's real loud. Pretty crazy design though, huh ? 4 1/2" of X-max ! Not that that would neccessarily mean much.....

I' am very familiar with that woofer. Its more of a promotional piece, trophy item

But don't get me wrong, with all the moving mass that cone, and voice coil have, it really plays them low frequencies well

That is like a 12" long former aluminum, 3" coil copper

The whole point of the LVS woofers is the linear spider placement

basically 1 spider per frame, and keep the voice coil really tight

what happens is you get a perfect motion, up and down stroke, without the possibility of the coil rubbing, and everything stays linear

the spiders are placed to where they are mirror imaged to allow also the same amount of resistance on the up stroke, and the down stroke

edit: I' am 100% positive that is one I built based on the spider hold down clamps that are tightened down at the terminals, and black epoxy used, instead of the white, and I also used the lock nuts on each plate, which the earlier models didn't use

So then, I'd really like to know what this crazy looking speakers positives and negatives were ? Did it do anything better than some of the other top subs (of a more traditional build) on the market ?

I used to work for the company that built those

My specialty was the more exotic side of the spectrum, while there was a production line that did the mainstream line of subwoofer's

I built that line of LVS, the regular 12"-18" LVS, among a bunch of other stuff from other companies

Those LVS x3 took 3 days to build in most cases, and when I would have to build 4-8 at a time, believe me, my 8 hr day was filled up

And the only reason I mention here in the forum that I used to work for this company, is because the company and I don't talk any more, and I'am a outcast from them in a way

so screw it

only advantages was its ability to play really low frequencies more constantly than the common style subwoofer, stay more linear, no bottoming out

Like I said, its more of a trophy piece

Disadvantages are, as of course being 19" tall, and almost 19" wide, well, mounting this puppy wasn't easy
