True that subs that big usually used in IMAX theatres and things of that nature.

I remember we toured one in school and they used 36" subs. 12) 12" Midbass. and a whole lot of mids and tweters.

mtx i believe had a 68 or something, mother of all subwoofers and 50krms and 180db all day all night, i think it was an overly elaborate joke though

and i thought they were lf drivers for pa cabinets mostly?

I think it 'looks' cool :-) Granted, it probably doesn't perform worth a $#!+.... I mean, how the thing looks "can be" {for some purposes} important.... But if you really want to impress me, show me some numbers on a sound meter.... like 150 db's at 18hz's... or something crazy :-)

I mean, "over the top" is great.... but their has to be some tangable value as to "why"......

MTX never made a 68"

Richard Clark and a team of people including Jonathan Demuth of T3 created a custom 60" sub in a bread truck driven with a motor. The math showed it would be capable of 180 dB at like 11 hz. but it broke due to a machinist screwing them on a titanium part.

MTX simply wrote a check to put their name on it and called it the Thunder 1000000 or MTX Bomb.

It did do about 170 dB back in 1996 though

What AudioBahn speaker was that ? ......and do you remember the frequency it hit 145db's at ? Because of course if they did that with one of their 15"s or 18"s, tuned to 45 or 50 hz, that would not be hardly worth mentioning, especially as far as "product brand records" go.

I dont remember the frequency. But it was on the old AC mics which are about 7 dB louder than the Term Lab. So it was about a 138 dB by todays standards.

and it was being driven by 2 D2 shredders. The 2000w earthquake amps

I thought it broke because it needed a computer to very precisely control which part of the motor was activated and Alma Gates protested about something to do with that... so they had to mash cables together and it tore itself apart
