i have a ford explorer and i am changing out all the door speakers, it has 6x8 mounts,

i am wanting to know what would sound best 6 1/2'' speakers, 5 1/4'' or just the 6x8s

i dont want component sets, and somewhat cheep, under 150 per pair...

they will be run at about 65-100 watts rms, i am mostly looking for the speakers with the best sounding highs and best sounding mid bass, all low bass will be taken out and sent to the subs

If your looking for a nice coaxial speaker check out the Infinity Kappa 6 1/2's. They come with their own outboard crossovers and sound really nice. They can be had online for $100 shipped all day long. Other than that my next reccomendation would be the Focal 165CA1 coaxial set. It's also a 6 1/2 and sounds very nice. I was considering each of those for my car, but went with the Kicker RS65.2 component set instead. It's a component, but can be mounted as a coaxial too. I also have a Ford with 6X8's for holes in the doors.

i also have an explorer and i used some infinity reference 6 x 8 they sound decent but lacked midbass.

right now i am using some phoenix gold rsd 6.5 comps

and i really love it. awesome midbass response, and for $60 you can't go wrong. i made some ring out of 3/4 mdf as an adapter to the stock 6 x8's

they also have a coax version but i haven't tried it though.
