If your buying the amp new, I say DD.

American bass has a undisclosed flaw about their amps..

If you let them sit at a idle or turn your sub preamps off or have volume on zero your amp will get hot sometimes kicking protect or just going up in smoke.

Only amps Ive ran so far that ever done this.

Being that they are Zenon built I believe, I wonder if sundowns have this same flaw which is also zenon built??

All Class D amps get hot in the output section when they idle. I was amazed at how hot a Sundown SAZ-3000D got on my test bench considering it didn't even have a load connected.

My VFL400.1's idle fine. There were a couple of flaws with a certain generation of Zenon amps but I'm pretty sure they have them ironed out now.

All that said, DD. Although the DD is also Zenon AFAIK, haha. Pretty damn sure they use nearly identical output sections.

EDIT: Yup, both have 16 IRFP360LC's in the output section and use the same driver board so you can be pretty sure power output will be very similar.

Z1a uses 6 small power supplies whereas 500.1 uses 4 larger ones, so the Z1a is probably a little more efficient at Street voltages and the VFL will like higher voltages better.
