ISO
I'm getting ready to build a new set of house speakers. I'm going to use the Kicker XPL 12 inch C-series 4 ohm version. All I'm going to do for the crossover is a coil for a 6 DB lowpass slope at 350 hertz. My mid is 6 ohm and I will most likely only use a high quality cap for a 6 DB highpass slope at around 150 or 130 hertz. I have been an iron core coil fan, but I was talking to someone else and they are trying to push me on useing an air core coil for my application. Can some explain why I'm better off going with the air core coil over the iron core coil from this company (Jantzen). Fs or F3(I keep forgetting which one is the drop off LOL) is 21 hertz for the 12 LOL. Quote Isobaric - Refers to the practice of coupling two drivers together to make them act as one. Boon
I would bandpass the mids unless you know they roll off hard at 3.5-4khz or they'll get screechy... Quote 10.x volts fo' life!

I plan on a coil for a 6 BD slope to choke the top end but I haven't figured out what frequency I want to use yet. The nice thing about Morel is I really can get away without anything to choke the top end. Morel is very smooth. BUT yes I will be choking the top end on my new speakers mids. MickyMcD
An Iron Core is lossey compared to an air core and roll off steeply at higher frequencies (around 2ghz, don't worry 'bout that). However, an air core will resonate inside its air gap and can do funky, funky things with harmonics. Audio quality wise, it is best to use an air core in my opinion as they have a more tolerant frequency response. LOL 2ghz - Ya Micky I don't quite think I can hear that. LOL I broke down and Emailed the manufacture. They said they will get back to me on monday. audiofanaticz
eh i was about to post nice mid, then I scrolled to the next pic and seen morel, so of coarse its nice. Just wondering why your using kicker for the subs, and not something a tad nicer? Kinda pathetic in a way that your mid or tweeter alone cost more then the big subwoofer. Ill be waiting for build pics however
ISO
Bangin man I hate to burst your bubble but the old school Kicker subs really did sound great and I grew up useing Kicker. Believe it or not that woofer retailed for $240-$250 apiece back when they used to sell them 98,99,00. Now today we can get some wicked shit for that but no, these woofers will work out great when its done. The one thing I like about them is that they won't roll off till they get down to 21 hertz. Usually when I build a speaker it will perform flawlesly with music but I need them to work flawlesly with movies too. I'm a 2 channel stereo guy, not a huge fan of all this surround sound stuff.
