Videogamer7 Posted March 4, 2009 Report Posted March 4, 2009 Hey guys, first post, been looking at the forums for a while, and figured i should sign up, need some assistance as well. So, I've been running a Punch P2, an a kenwood 1000 watt duel channel, for a few weeks, and i seem to keep blowing the fuses in the amp, its a one 40A fuse. I went to the sound shop in my area and they said throw a bigger fuse in it, didn't like that answer. So i talked to a few more people, and i heard that one of my wires may be broken and shorting, my head unit, is a cheep one (i know its a peice of crap but it works) and only has one preamp out at 2.2v, and ive heard that my alternator isn't keeping my battery fully charged, because its only a 102A? alternator and my amp, every time the sub hits draws a majority of the power and on the second hit its pulses or surges the amp blowing the fuse. Only just getting into sound systems i am not sure which of them to tackle first or which of them are bull.
AI James Posted March 4, 2009 Report Posted March 4, 2009 sounds liek your electrical isnt supplying enough current to the amp so the amp is popping fuses rather then blowing itself

Boon Posted March 4, 2009 Report Posted March 4, 2009 So you're blowing the blade fuse in the amp rather than the fuse on your power cable? Either the amp is running at too low an impedance (could be a short or just wired wrong), you have epic voltage drop or you have the gains cranked right up. Amp could possibly be on the way out but it's unlikely. EDIT: Exactly which model of P2 do you have? If you have anything other than a SVC 4 ohm or a DVC 2 ohm then you're probably running your amp at some silly impedance. 10.x volts fo' life!
Videogamer7 Posted March 5, 2009 Author Report Posted March 5, 2009 I think i found the problem, it was the DVC P2, and i actually blew it today, i only had the one VC hooked up, it was at 4 Ohms, i had it parallel, to bring it down to 2 Ohms, think that is what killed it in the long run. O well live and learn. Also the box i had was a cheep one and was too small for the sub and ended up ripping the VC away from the cone. =( Bought a Kicker, and tossed the box.
