Enclosure Designing: Tutorial

Thanks and yea...didnt really finish the enclosure, its more for just showing how to do all of the calcs for it etc.

As for the image you posted, that wouldnt be the port length...the effective port would extend further than where you stopped the second line...it'd bend around that last turn of the port half of the ports width into the enclosure...

(^Unless the port is more than 'port width' away from that wall, cant really tell...but it'd still be longer than shown)

And where you have those lines intersect in the port wouldnt be the center of the port either...you'd pretty much have to do it the way in the tutorial to truely follow the center of the port...just an observation

the way you measure the port length is too complicated and there are easier ways. like:

Posted Image

Draw a line with your ruler through the center of your port, length wise and width wise, then measure from the port exit to where the lines intersect, and from there to the end of the port.

Other than that it's a good tutorial. But you didnt finish the box lol

not as accurate at measuring port length. I measure the port lengths of the corners or bends with arcs...even more accurate

to complete the box you basically just need to use the push/pull tool up top and click one wall of the enclosure once, and type the height. it'll automatically put it in the box with the measurements and hit enter. and it'll pop up to that height. do the same thing with all other sides

So, what happens if you get the ports wrong?

What do you mean 'get the ports wrong'?...you mean if you go through the process and you dont end up with the tuning you wanted?...simply lengthen/shorten the port and you can adjust the airspace if it impedes on that too much by adjusting the dimensions of the enclosure too..

Lengthening the port = lower tuning

Shortening the port = raise tuning

Larger airspace = lower tuning

Smaller arispace = higher tuning

Ok, thanks man. I have an already built box and I'm preparing it for new speakers (TOTALLY new speakers, the old ones were.. very old) and you remind me to make sure everything is adjustable.

I'm going to try to follow the port recommendations on crutchfield.com

Why do some people have 4 ports and others have 2? (I've got two and plan on keeping two).

You might be a Redneck if you use your leftover gutters for a speaker box port...
