hey now, some people dont know this....

2.1  Front R , Front L, Sub (not really surround i guess)

5.1 Front R , Front L, Center, Rear L, Rear R, Sub

6.1 Front R , Front L, Center, Rear L, Rear R, Rear Center, Sub

7.1 Front R , Front L, Center, Side L, Side R, Rear L, Rear R, Sub

so i take it there isnt an 8.1 where there is a rear center thrown in there?

possibly im not sure....im not an expert.  I think another word for 7.1 is "8 channel" but im not sure ive seen 8.1

not out of the question, it seems like something that probably DOES exist.

hmmm...say there are mutliple stand alone subs...say 2 of them and 7 satellites would that make it a 7.2?

thereisnt even any true 7.1 media out there, so its kinda worthless

i run 6.1 and its nice but only like half the movies are done in 6.1

im not to sure about that for HT, but im pretty sure my 7.1 thats also on my computer as well DOES have 7.1 material.  If not they fake it pretty good cuz when someone is approaching me from the side (on a game) it goes to the side speaker as well as the other appropriate speakers.
