Voltage Drops With Good Electrical And Low Wattage?

Recommended Posts

That sounds like an alternator issue to me. But then you didn't mention if you upgraded your alternator charging wire, or the rest of the big 3? Check that first.

I'm running a SAZ-3000D at the full 3kW off a 250A mechman alt, yellow top and kinetik 1800. On songs with long bass sections, like Prime Minister, Airforces, etc, I drop to mid 13v but never lower.

So with you pulling even less power from the amp, your alternator alone should be able to feed it enough power I would think. If that was my setup I'd temporarily take out a few of those batteries and see if the problem is identical. I don't think the batteries alone could be pulling enough current (while charging) to cause this kind of an issue but may as well check..

Everything is done with 1/0. Man i need to invest in a clamp meter to see what my alt really is putting out.

try checking the belt.

it could be loose and not getting the right grip and powering your batts right.

As far as i know the belt is much tighter than stock, the alt is about an inch bigger in diameter so thats another 1/2 inch. Plus the pulley is a lot bigger so the belt has about another 3/4 to an inch that it has to reach. I know the belt tensioner or whatever you call it had to be turned a lot farther than stock to get the belt to go around

Like the title says I have voltage drops from 14.5-14.8 down into the 10 range on low notes.

I have a 220 amp irragi alt.

2 batteries under the hood. Diehards which i replaced in November brand new almost. Rated at like 720 cca.

A powermaster d3100 in the back 12 inches from the amp. 1 run of 1/0 from front to the d3100.

All 1/0 with 300 amp fuses.

The alt, both stock batteries and the 3100 are grounded to the FRAME, scraped to bare metal and all connections are tight.

My 3000d is only at half gain right about 1600 watts.

Judging by my electrical and what the amp is set at, I should not have voltage drops that low. I think my box is just very inefficient.

Anyone agree with me or have any ideas?

EDIT: I also have a sundown 100.4 only running at about 300 watts total, around 70 watts to each 6.5.

You said you have mechman alternator. That alternator sound very fishy.

no

you can cook bacon shirtless if you're not a pussy...lol

not hatin, but am i wrong here it looks as if the amp is not grounded its hooked directly to the battery. it that the way it should be.

i would try to run just the d3100.

un hook the diehards

if you are running at 14.8v, then your resting volts should be higher13.5-13.8 on the d3100.

you should check each connection front to back, solder if possible.

i am going to presume that you have the big three done from when you put in your alt.

bigger pully on an irragi alt doesn't sound right, don't they have a hard time at idle already, bigger pully would make it turn even slower. <i don't own one or know anything about irragi>

and like was already said by someone else go wang on it and check volt drop at amp them at d3100 then at front batts the diehards then at alt terminal and post back.

and is this drop happening at will with hard wanging or only over long periods of hard wanging ?

and do you ever dive without wide open wanging to recharge?

and when you drop to 11 volts how long will it take to recover ?

enough questions

good luck, you will get it

Disconnect all three batteries and check resting voltage. Come back in about an hour or so and check resting voltages again. You may have a bad battery in the mix, and the other two are feeding it to keep the voltages up.
