kentb
in my experience KILZ primer really sticks to mdf without even sanding it, (even the edges of mdf). but of course if you want a smooth finish you have to sand it a lot Quote New System 2 10" Fi SSD, Sundown 1500d Build I build and design enclosures(cheap price), PM ME Kicker L7 Navigator(plexiglass, fiberglass, aeroport) Build BTL 18" Escalade(plexiglass, battery tray) Build http://www.kentbaudio.com Old System
MXmike800
id grab a da sander with a finer grit and just run over your box with it.
E-Train
Ok heres my input, I resined the front of my box for a lil extra strenth and the rest just left alone n primered, when I painted it i noticed that the resined front the paint stuck alot better, especially the edges, the edges on the untreated MDF i had to put 6 or 7 coats of primer just to get all the wood color to go away, and still paint wouldnt stick, especially white, it would litterally soak it up as soon as i sprayed it on there, so i would say, put a nice even coat of resin over the entirety of the box, sand all of the rough edges, bumps, etc.. down with a heavier grit then resand with a fine grit to keep it smooth, shoot it wth a coat or 2 of primer, sand, paint, n 2 layers of clear. Neo_frog
When I paint MDF, I use Scherwinn Williams Pro-Cryl Primer and Sher-Cryl Paint. Only takes one coat of each, but it's like $70 a gallon. It's for industrial use only with no hardener so it's convenient. Quote Need an install? Hit me up.[email protected]Got car audio questions? sweet&low
I would use a 2k urethane primer that's what I always used and it works great. Fast build and it hardens like a fiberglass resin but its still easy to sand
