Colin - STAPUFT Posted May 28, 2009 Report Share Posted May 28, 2009 I do this long term, not daily trading or penny stocks. I have the 401k at work as well as ROTH IRAs for myself and my wife. I can't touch the stuff until I am 59.5 years old so I really don't care what it does right now. But know this.... there is no telling where the market will go- could crash again or could go back up. But- if it is at a low compared to last year, it is like everything is half off right now! Now and in several months is a great time to by LONG TERM in my opinion. But about penny stocks- I would def. do that with 20-50 bucks every now and then. Much better than going to the casino for my money. If you can risk just blowing it, then why not? IMO, single stock trading- especially in short term investments is a true gamble anyway. And even then, it's not a risk if you monitor the economy and company you're investing which most people don't do. I've made some money doing the penny stock thing, but I had fits of greediness and lost also. I never lost a lot, but I watched a close family member lose almost 1/4 million due to a closeout on a penny stock. If you guys get into it, take it easy and don't get caught up in the moment. Don't do what some people do and sell while it's dropping then buy when it's rising. They follow the trends 100% the wrong way. Buy a For Dummies book on it before anything, and take it easy. Pay attention to daily, monthly, and yearly trends of stocks before jumping on it. Some penny stocks nowadays are at .01 from $150 last year... Those generally are the wrong ones to jump in to, but if you didn't catch the trends, you'd lose. Just tryin to help out guys. Good luck! Need an install? As neo_frog said the markets can be a bit of a gamble or it could be a calculated risk based on past market performances. Learn to review the market of your choice using market indicators. The time spent studding the market history and how to use indicators that could help to show potential market changes. This would be key in your decision to enter or exit the market. Here are a few more tips for your consideration, always plan you exit strategy before you enter the market. Always use a stop loss and place this with your order. One last thing that seems to have been the downfall of many who trade in the markets is to keep your emotions out of you decisions. Hope this helps and good luck in the markets.
