"Eh like stated a well built box needs no fiberglass for bracing." Try to read and understand what you say... You weren't asking why, you were making a statement. I said other people do it also to backup my statement and used Steve as a reference because he's known to everyone of us as the man for this stuff. Maybe you've never built a big box (8cuft+)? I've glassed at least 5 boxes that I've built, glass helps in alot of ways, it's great for sealing and strengthening. Good woodworking + fiberglass = very strong enclosure. I have actually built a 6 boxes over 10 cubes and maybe 4 between 8-10 cubes. I never did glass any of them and used 1" mdf and never had a problem with flexing. Not sure how you guys have such problems with flexing but I never do. As for sealing silicon is very good Car Audio + Bodyboarding/Longboarding = LIFE!!!

As for sealing silicon is very goodLOL i use 1.25 and 1.5 mdf and one layer of glass works wonders for strength and acts as a smooth surface for sound waves to bounce off of and not be absorbed like in regular wood. not trying to argue just trying to not let people be misinformed Roseville, CA

matt402 Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 where do you find this 1.25/1.5 MDF x2 fiberglass is not only used for strength but also smoother airflow ^. the smoother the better the airflow, that also why i would choose mdf>birch (no grain pattern).
Kasey Posted July 21, 2009 Author Report Posted July 21, 2009 Update: I was messing around doing some measuring in the truck for wire and what not when i decided to measure how much room there was for the box. I found out i can add 5 more inches to my box. This helps cuz i wanted to do a flush mount with the amps. After 20 min with SketchUp here is what i came up with.
