I took the box to my car audio place i deal with and they said the box sounds like it is tuned to 45 hz...

Guest Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 the sub is 500 rms and 1800 watts max and i got 600 watt amp on it so it shouldnt be pushing it that hard... the only way you can check if the amp is pushing the sub too hard is with a dmm. or an oscilloscope. those are pretty much the only 2 options. the sub can sound like crap when your playing too low of a note and the sub is over-excursion'ing (word?) itself. set the subsonic filter to about 40hz (if the box really is tuned to 45hz). or if your clipping the absolute hell out of the amp.

(not saying this company doesnt know) buy a $15 Digital Multimeter or borrow one from a friend and check the topic under electrics "how to tune your amp gains". and the other option i was thinking of was that your playing notes UNDER the tuning of the box and that can cause it to sound bad too because if your playing something under the tuning frequency of the box, the sub is basically playing as if it wasnt in a box.
