Subwoofer Flexing Too Much?

I recently build a subwoofer box for my new digital designs sub. the box is about 3 cubic feet before the port and the port is about 3.5" wide by about 14" tall and about 17" long. i have no idea what its tuned to because i am no professional but when my sub starts hitting on some lower notes the sub flexes way to much. the sub sound really bad sounding when this happens...

The subs info:

http://www.ddaudio.com/dd/caraudio/09/woofer09_1500.asp

The amp info: I have the eclipse 33230

http://www.mmxpress.com/eclipse/amplifiers.htm

I have no idea why sub is flexing so hard on lower bass but would like some info.

Song i noticed this on was the low note on the song I put On.

and really bad when i tried the song beats 4 my van i had volume less then half of normal jamming volume and it sounded purely terrible.

My equalizer was set to all 0's when i played beats 4 my van and my amp is hooked up 4 ohm.

If you dont know what your box is tuned to, then you may have wayyyyy too much port area or it may be tuned way too low

my amps gain is set to about 45% and i have it where it only plays stuff lower than 70hz...

The amp has a choice for a subsonic choice of +12 db or +24db which should i choose?

did you set the gains with a DMM or a oscope?

how is your sub wired up?

Well it would usually be a choice of -12 or -24, and in your case I would go with -24 to stop from overexcursion.

i have it set to 24db already...

I think you should be asking some question on tuning you box so you could get a new box build going because if you don't then you might have to start looking at some new woofers.
