HHR Ed
does the TL show the actual highest SPL, or the average of (39,40,41) if you are burping at 40... Yes, its basically an average over a 3 hz range. The logarithms used to translate the pressure into a DB reading are apparently the most accurate in the industry. Doing it in this manner ensures a consistent reading no matter what the environmental conditions. CR Boom
If you could fine a song with all three freq's It may be able to bassrace higher than a burp? What sucks is seeing that big number on the RTA then seeing the lower average.... I have a little over 153 at 40hz. but my average is only 147.2.... If by average you mean over 30 seconds in Bassrace there are a lot of things that could contribute to that low of a score. One could be your start, if you don't start when the timer says "Set" your start will be late and will cost you score on your average. The other thing could be the music your playing. It could be the wrong frequency or it does not have constant enough bass throughout the entire song. If there is a break in the song you average will drop because of that, not because you aren't that loud. For example I can burp a 151.3 @ 43hz. I can bassrace a 150.8 over 30 seconds with Lil Jon which is tuned to 43hz and is very very consistant bass. Now can you see why I was able to bassrace so high? It's because I used a very bass heavy song with no breaks and that song plays at my peak frequency of my car. No, Bass race is different. bass race is an average over time. A peak SPL setting or Burp score does not average over time, its an average over a 3hz range of peak SPL readings. CR Boom
This is SPL burp.. Here are some pictures of my peak. At 40 I'am over 153 but with the 3 average, I'm down to 147.2, What can you do to fight this? Second Question was, in DB DRAG if the had a song that stayed at 40, would it be possible to score higher in db Drag than burp? Since it doesn't average the three Freq, together Quote 2007 Great Wall So Cool 4-12' RE audio MX's Stetsom 7k2D 6-Batts 3-Mechman 250 amp Rhino's
HHR Ed
You cant do anything. Thats the way the meter works, your score is 147.2 dB. You can work on your system to score higher though. Everyone else is scored the same way. My 153.5 is the average over 3hz. My peak at 1 frequency is 159, but that is not my official score, 153.5 dB is. Bass race reads the same way, but takes multiple readings over a 30 second time period and averages all the readings together. So it is basically impossible to bass race higher than your loudest possible burp score. You may be able to do the same score, but its very difficult.
