First day at my new EMT job..........

As some of you might already now, i'm an EMT-I, and just got on with one of the local ambulance services in my area. I'll leave out the BS calls (you get a lot of those) however there was a call today that really got to me. It was about 2:15pm and a call comes over for a 3 Y/O female in cardiac arrest/not breathing, we were out the door in 20 seconds in all honesty. We have the diesel WIDE FUCKIN OPEN, we arrive at the patients house, 3 Y/O is in active cardiac arrest, I go ahead and insert an ET tube, and start breathing for her, CPR and all this crap is going on..............She finally died in the back of the ambulance. The other thing about this story is this: We come to find out that just yesterday this 3 y/o was in the hospital for a heart dysrythmia, and the doctor pertaining to this PT released her! WTF....... And of course the next day she dies. It is calls like this that really make you sit back and think. I can't imagine what the parents are feeling like, and for those of you with kids that are healthy, we are LUCKY!

You can let those get to you man being an EMT your gonna see stuff like that I know I could never do that job wild game is one thing but humans are a whole different ball game

yea man. thats some serious stuff you got in that career. more power to you man. keep doing what you are doing. sometimes things happen for a reason. you just have to do your best and give it all you got.

Pretty sad. My wife is an OB nurse and has worked in the ICU and neonatal ICU so she has told me some sad stories. You just gotta do your best to get past it and appreciate the times when you help save a life.

yeah my dad is a federal firefighter/ EMT- something or another, and some of the stories he tells are pretty sketch, def. not a job I would want, seeing 3 people die from a car crash in front my house was enough for me.
