Probably the brakes going out, he had started laying on the brakes shortly before it started smoking. THe smoke, the turbo just about to blow. Thinking it's diesel runaway but wanted to get a second opinion. The inside pieces pretty much shatter and go right through the engine and tear everything appart. Thats the reason (in truck pulls) that diesel trucks with a surtain amount of power now have to have an elbow on the exhaust facing up if they dont have a stack because people have been hit by the pieces (hurt/killed).
