Epicenter - What Is It?

Recommended Posts

If you want the best bass possible and a way to measure how loud your system is playing, the EPIC-160 in-dash car audio processor is the perfect product for you. The EPIC-160 is an expert combination of the patented bass enhancement circuits from The Epicenter along with a microphone and a 160-dB SPL (sound pressure level) display. The display will show real time SPL or hold the highest value so you can show your friends. It will also display voltage so you can monitor your vehicle's electrical systems. With AudioControl's unique Para-Bass equalization control, you select the frequency and bandwidth for the enhanced bass action. The EPIC-160 in-dash car audio processor gives you great bass and a way to see the result.

The EPIC-160 uses The Epicenter’s patented bass restoration circuitry, which actually adds lower octaves of bass to any performance autosound system. In addition, the EPIC-160 includes AudioControl’s Para-Bass equalization, which allows the user to fine-tune the bass response to their specific vehicle. The net result is more bass…louder.

In addition to allowing users to maximize their bass response, the new EPIC-160 offers a

specially designed microphone mounted on the front panel that can measure up to 160 dB. The SPL is then shown on an LED display on the front panel of the EPIC-160. Optionally, users of the EPIC-160 may select to see their SPL measurement constantly updating or in a peak hold mode. The display also will show the systems power voltage with one tenth volt resolution.

The EPIC-160 is housed in a convenient ½ DIN sized chassis with all of the user controls and microphone mounted on the front panel. Like most AudioControl products, the EPIC-160 provides speaker level inputs and the ability to output signal levels as high as 13-volts.

This should explain everything.

Sounds like a bass boost knob with voltage reading and SPL mic all in your dash?

As well as an increasing signal for the bass frequencies, does it also increase voltage (like a line driver)?

Basically it's a bass knob that restores the missing bass that is sometimes lost during recording. Which makes the bass clearer, cleaner, and richer in most recordings.

Sounds like a bass boost knob with voltage reading and SPL mic all in your dash? Yessir

As well as an increasing signal for the bass frequencies, does it also increase voltage (like a line driver)? I have no idea.

oh okay, so that makes sense, for creating a stronger signal for the frequencies that might not be there but should be there, kinda?

or it has the ability to do that?

I run one in my setup and I will never give it up. I love it because like described above it inhances the music that has low or soft bass notes and turns a no bass having song into a bass monster. So if you listen to a veritie of music like Old School or R&B this is the unit you will want. The epic-160 is nice but I just have the Audio Controle unit with the remote bass knob. All you get with the 160 is an indash meter which is not realy accurate IMO.

I have an Epic-160.

It does what it says it does: Adds LOWER bass to songs w/ little, less apparent bass or higher punchier bass.

I think it was GP2K that said " I can make Garth Brooks sound like Bass Mechanic" w/ his Epicenter...and thats very true.

I can hit harder w/ a Love song, Mexican Hat dance, Polka, or Daler Mehdi song on my Epic than ur best Young Jeezy w/ out.

It adds VERY LOW octaves to songs that lack them or LOST them in the compression of recording.

The mic IS accurate-to a degree.

It is far LESS sensitive than a TL (about -5db) but it only really varies w/ temp and only 1db at most if that from my exp. I have had it in there for a few yrs now.

The BASS restoration part is AWSOME not only cuz of what it does, but because it has a DEFEAT button so you can have it on or off at the push of a button AND it has a gain knob. You can turn it on and off at will, and alter the amount of gain in real time.

It's hard to explain the diff it makes until you experience it in a car/truck w/ a decent setup and you should ALWAYS run it w/ a subsonic filter IMO.

~2cents.

An Epicenter is a Bass Processor. All it does is Reproduces Bass. Does not make things "louder" however it will bring notes to LIVE. I have an Epicenter series 2, I only switch on the epicenter maybe a quarter of a turn on the knob, & its only music that doesnt seem to have any bass.

But I must warn you When using an Epicenter BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL with it, you will end up bottoming out and damaging equipment if used improperly.

If you have a sealed box you dont have to worry as much. I've heard a 12" mag in a 1.3 cube box with the epicenter on full tilt, sounds dam great, i askes him(jntar) if it would damage his mag, he said since its in this particular size box and its sealed it wont...he should know he's a very well respected member & lives local from Caraudio.com...but he can be dick if you get in his badside :)

You can find an epicenter in the $100 range if you look around
