S15_Silvia
This is my first post here, but I've been looking around for a while and there are some pretty awesome people posting here. I decided to post because I definitely need help with this project I'm doing, and I'm sure there are people here with the knowledge I need. What I want to do is create my own 12" woofer, and I will be basing it off of either a Digital Designs composite cone/surround/dustcap/spider or a Fi Q recone kit (which hopefully includes all of that). Obviously I'll be making my own basket, magnet assembly, etc. I don't know if I'll be making my own voice coil, because a) that'll be a huge challenge, with getting the impedance correct etc. and b.) the recone kits may have a voice coil already installed on the former. If anyone has knowledge or experience with assembling woofers, let me know! CHECK PAGE 2 FOR PICS... If anyone has knowledge or experience with assembling woofers, let me know! Good luck getting a DD recone unless you own one of their subs. They won't sell them to people without the serial number on the woofer cause they don't want people doing exactly what you are trying to do. You'd be better off buying parts from Foreverbumpin here on the forum. He will sell you whatever you need as far as spiders, cones, coils, baskets. Just pm him and ask him for a price on what you need. S15_Silvia
Oh, DD does require you to own one of their subs first? That's a shame...their composite cones are so nice looking. I did send Forevrbumpin a PM, so we'll see what happens I guess. I've seen all kinds of hybrid woofers made before, some with three different brands for their soft parts/baskets/magnets. I'm trying to do something like that, and have the real challenge be assembling it all myself. raytard
any particular reason you're set on building your own woofer? just looking for the experience of building it? because honestly if you look around you can kinda find a woofer with whatever looks, specs, and price you want, without all the hassel of having to build it yourself Quote Build: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...hl=avalon+build monster/rockford/kicker/stinger cables, pioneer source, jbl highs/amps, kinetik/shuriken batts, iraggi alt, dei security, dc subs(atleast for now) Team DC
S15_Silvia
It's a college project...choose something (challenging) to do and then report back on every step of the process. Plus I've really always wanted to build a woofer. Quote 2016 Subaru BRZ | Sony XAV-AX100 | Rockford Fosgate DSM 4080 & DSM 40ix | On 6/6/2012 at 6:32 PM, 'LZTYBRN' said: 3. The latter two are pretty hard to come by, though... Boon
Yeah DD won't sell you recones without a picture of the backplate with your drivers license beside it. I suppose you could ask DD reallllllly nicely for a composite cone, just the cone... would cost you through the roof I imagine though. Quote 10.x volts fo' life! S15_Silvia
Yeah...I emailed them about it over the weekend and we'll see what they say tomorrow. By now I'm expecting a solid "sorry but no." Quote 2016 Subaru BRZ | Sony XAV-AX100 | Rockford Fosgate DSM 4080 & DSM 40ix | On 6/6/2012 at 6:32 PM, 'LZTYBRN' said: 3.
