What amp and which Subs should I get?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have a 2002 Mercury Cougar and just put in my Pioneer Premier DEH-P580mp headunit(50x4). I have narrowed my sub woofer search to these two,(http://www.hifisoundconnection.com/Shop/Control/Product/fp/vpid/3135029/vpcsid/0/SFV/30046) and (http://www.hifisoundconnection.com/Shop/Control/Product/fp/vpid/3135028/vpcsid/0/SFV/30046)...the only difference between the two is the D2 and D4 which I have no idea what that means....im thinkin somethin to do with ohms but Im not positive. If you guys could tell me which I need, that would be awesome. As for an amp, I dont kno what kind I need and how much power given my head unit and the pioneer subs. I would also like to replace the four(4) stock 4x6's with some 5x7's or 6x8's so I dont know whether that changes what I need. I know this is alot and i probably sound like some annoying stereo rookie but im just confused as crap. Thanks For Your Time

EDIT....Current door speakers are 5x7, not 4x6...sorry

Decent choice there guy...a dual 2ohm sub can be wired to 1ohm or 4ohm...a dual 4ohm sub can be wired to 2ohm or 8ohm.....visual example here....

With the 350 watt rms power handling your most likely gonna wanna find an amp that does this @2ohm...meaning you should go with the Dual4ohm version...now as far as a amp goes i think this will suit you....... http://cgi.ebay.com/CRUNCH-PZi1000-1-CLASS...id=p4999.c0.m14

Decent price and does rated..got the 1500 watt version for the wife and it's reliable....if you get the dual 4 version you can wire it to 2ohms and get 500 watt rms(which will give you a little headroom) just set your gains properly...any more questions just let me know!

thank you SO much man but I have to say im throrroughly confused on the amp....so go with the D4?

Yes...if you have your mind set on that sub go Dual 4 to match up nicely with that mentioned amp...nice little first budget build...then later if you wanna upgrade your sub, get a dual 2ohm sub,and use your amp to it's full potential by wiring it to 1ohm!
