OBI
Got out my old ZX1500 and noticed something was moving around inside. This amp worked fine for over a year. Then I took it out and put it in closet(untouched). This a big deal? Little plastic piece broke. OBI
Does it matter, if that little plastic piece covering the little metal bars, chipped off?
HHR Ed
yes it does matter. Is that the power supply portion of the amp? Could be having internal voltage/polarity problems. I believe it is the Power Supply side, to the right or the little diode is the Battery Postitive connection terminal. Quote ¿ǝɯɐƃ ǝɥʇ Trolls never learn............ Boon
Ever accidently hook it up backwards? Cracked diodes are ALWAYS bad, you're probably lucky and it blew 'open' rather than short. Usually around there they're used to shunt spikes in the power supply or to drain the caps in the amp when it's disconnected AFAIK. Pretty easy fix, make sure you replace them with an identical part, you'll probably need a good iron to get it hot enough to de-solder. Be careful removing it from the board, often helps to clip the part out then just de-solder the stumps of the legs... those diodes have pretty thick legs compared to the holes sometimes and the last thing you want is to mess up the pads/donuts. Can be indicitave of another problem in the amp though... Edited October 13, 2009 by Boon Quote 10.x volts fo' life!
