Laptop Kinda Slowing Down, Help?

Recommended Posts

I have had my laptop for about a year now and it's treated me great and I haven't had any problems with it. But recently I have noticed it's starting to really lag on start ups ( like after I log into my account and everything's loading ).

I'm very good with computer's, Build em', Know a lot about them ect.

Ive Defraged it, cleaned and defrged the registry, freed up disk space and so on. It hasn't helped.

Do you guy's have anymore suggestions?

My comp. is a Acer Aspire 5735-4774, It has 2 gigs of ram, Intel Pentium dual-core 2.0GHz 667Mhz FSB and a 1MB l2 Cache processor. I'm running Vista 32 bit.

But like I said when I first got it the MoFo flied and now it's starting to slow down. :(

Great little LT for about 400 bucks.

Thanks guy's.

if its lagging on startup, i guarantee that you have alot of programs trying to start up.

go to Start then Run, type in "msconfig" without quotes

in the General tab select "Selective Startup" and leave everything under that the way it is.

go to the Startup tab and deselect everything you dont want running on startup. things like AIM, Quicktime, Java updater, Adobe Reader updater, a few more that i cant think of for examples.

after that click OK and select whichever option you want, whether to restart or to not restart

I would first make sure I have very minimal startup objects enabled.

>>Hit windows button + R

>>Type in "msconfig" without quotes

>>In the Utility, go to startup tab.

>>Uncheck anything you don't need....namely things like ituneshelper, adobe reader and so on

Edit...Kranny beat me to it lol

K guy's did that really quick and the only thing in there that I could deselect is Quick time.

Anything else you could recommend?

i always like to save everything to a external harddrive so my informations safe then delete everything and reinstall operating system. works well and like new everytime.

I was really thinking about doing that but Ive never worked with laptops before. Is it pretty much the same process as a desktop?

Go to Start-->Run, and type "%temp%" without the quotes and hit enter. This opens up the Temporary Files folder, which should be emptied from time to time. Do a quick Ctrl+A to select everything, and hit the delete (not backspace) key to get rid of it all. I've noticed speed gains on some machines with this.
