KickerAudio21
So today I picked up a Craftsman router - it was pretty nice 110 amp, marked down to $70 from $100 or so.... I want to be able to do two things: - round corners on my boxes - cut circles for subwoofers SOOO what bits or accesories do I need and where is the cheapest place to get them!!??? (sears wants $40 for rounding bits), so i wanna try and get cheaper if i can, i'm poor and how do routers cut circles?? do i need to make a router table? or is there an atachment? the router didn't come with anything except a little metal bar thingy. ------------------------------------------------- 1st place circuit city car/spl show (maplewood,MN) 2006 146.6 dB's with 2 12" L7 and 1606d brutus

ChevyBoy
http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cf...tnumber=365-260 the big one is the only one you really need. go to their website and make sure it fits your router. btw, you can piece that set out. KickerAudio21
for $50 i'd rather use my jigsaw for circles.... (at least until I get my financial situation stabalized) but thx for link But the roudned edge one is called a roundover bit??? and there are differnet sizes, i noticed at sears there was a 1/2" version and a 1/4" version, which would work well for rounding 3/4" MDF boxes? ------------------------------------------------- 1st place circuit city car/spl show (maplewood,MN) 2006 146.6 dB's with 2 12" L7 and 1606d brutus
sean 371
Either one would, it just depends on how rounded you want to go. And that $50 is MORE than worth it. Do not have a router without buying that jig. It's the most useful thing I have, second to my brad nailer. Perfect circles in under a minute is pretty sweet. KickerAudio21
I hear ya, I guess i'll invest in it. Also, my router does not have a plunger - so would I jsut drill a hole and start the bit there??? ------------------------------------------------- 1st place circuit city car/spl show (maplewood,MN) 2006 146.6 dB's with 2 12" L7 and 1606d brutus
kingsuv
You can start with a ryobi Router kit, It has a straight bit roundover and whatnot. It was like 40 bucks for it. I would save for the better bits if your going to do a lot of boxes, it will pay off in the end. Then a jasper jig is one of the best tools you can have around the shop. Designing, building, and shipping boxes. Yahoo IM - kingsuv00If the listening level is too loud, please inform the driver, so he can promptly pull over, and let you out. not many cars can get me to pluggin my ears but this one.......damn. I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Seems like it does it with relative ease....16 12's on 8 amps.........gotta love it.
ChevyBoy
usually a jasper only fits plunge routers, but some people said they had them on their fixed base with no problem.
sierra mist
That's great man. I got a round over bit in a 15 piece set from Harbor Freight. Does it look like this?
KickerAudio21
here it is.... I read the manual and it says that you can use one of the supplied metal things to cut circles i think.... hopefully It'll work fine without a plunger, i can't imagine any situation where i'd need one. ------------------------------------------------- 1st place circuit city car/spl show (maplewood,MN) 2006 146.6 dB's with 2 12" L7 and 1606d brutus
