Mike, I think that with those 2X4's on each side of the port in the rear chamber it is going to hurt output quite a bit. I would remove them and use 1 1/4" dowel rod or even 1/2" threaded rod. 2X4's kill the wave on the inside of the box and I've had nothing but issues when using them in an enclosure.

not a fan of the rods but they are round which is a good aspect. What sort of issues are you referring to?

couldn't you just take the 2x4's out and round the corners off? sort of making them into a huge dowel? lol

Do you remember my 2 12" box that I had for the Nightshades when I first used the 4" ports for it? I had a 2X4 along the back of the box right in front of the ports. It was more than 4" away from the ports but I was given advice to take it out and did. I gained .6db's by taking the 2X4 out of the way and nothing else. I just think that it was disrupting airflow and I for see the same thing happening in this box. I would meter it first and then take them out so you officially know which is louder.

.6 is a huge gain for the removal of a 2x4

My original plan is to lay the 2x4s against the plane I am bracing sideways instead of up and down (strengthens without disturbing airflow as much) but this was Jays build and he wanted it this way. The physics of what your saying makes sense so I may convince him to do it my way.

everyone should pay more attention to what Nightshade posts. everything he says is helpful and he knows what he's doing. s-audio could make a picture book of the installs he's done and it would be a top seller lol

2x4s also take up more room so maybe thats why you gained you gained some volume ? or a mixture of both

Never seen any gain with anything more then single layer baffles in no wall builds and neither has Jacob Fuller with his Jeep. A thick baffle helps with loading and is ideal for a wall since the port is on top of the dash. In a no wall build since you are loading off the back of the vehicle most of the time it usually yields no gain. I am speaking in terms of if the box is braced well with single layer otherwise any gain seen is the lack of enforcement in the baffle alone.

You confused me lol. I just mean that if a wall is built solid an doesnt need internal bracing then air flow shouldnt be obstructed. Hence the 2x4 being removed and maybe causing better airflow and icnreased numbers? I dont see how removal of a 2x4 could make .6 gain by just adding volume/efficeny to the box. I may be wrong tho lol

I was just making that point from what I have seen though none the less. If you get creative with bracing in single layer no wall builds you don't need anything more. That goes for all the tests I have done or seen.
