HHR Ed Posted November 23, 2009 Report Share Posted November 23, 2009 Do the coils still smell? How is the amps adjusted? If bass boost is UP, this will cause coils to smell. This is due to the fact that Bass boost adds signal distortion and adds alot of heat. In Most cases if you turn Bass boost down and adjust gain accordingly, you will not have coil smell and numbers will be higher on the SPL meter. But sometimes it wont sound as loud on music, but it meters higher and plays more reliably.
